Kathryne Maundu

Kathryne has 16 years of consulting experience guiding local and multinational companies and their boards in discharging their statutory and corporate governance mandate. She is currently working as a senior executive in the Corporate Services Practice of the Law Firm Bowmans Coulson Harney LLP, where she provides outsourced Company Secretarial and Governance Services. Kathryne worked with Deloitte for 15 years, in the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, and is well versed with the applicable corporate laws and other statutory regulations in these jurisdictions.

She sits on various boards in diverse sectors in her capacity as company secretary and is notably the current Company Secretary of Safaricom Plc.

As part of her role, Kathryne has been involved in providing support at board and general meetings, facilitating communication between Boards members, Shareholders and Management. She is also pivotal in assisting Boards to establish good corporate governance structures and develop policies and charters to support these structures, restructuring of companies and offering advisory services in relation to the compliance of companies with the Companies Act and other relevant regulations. Her key areas of specialization include but are not limited to the provision of Governance, Legal and Company Secretarial services, Bond/Note and Security Trustee services, Escrow Agent services and Shares and Bond Registration Services.

Other mainstream expert areas that Kathryne has been involved in as she provides corporate governance services are primarily in the line of governance assessments, drafting of governance tools, board and management effectiveness programs such as board inductions and evaluations and trainings.

She is also involved in training fellow company secretaries and has been called upon by the Institute of Certified Secretaries on a number of occasions to train its members on governance matters.

Due to her contribution and continuous engagement in the advancement of the company secretarial profession, Kathryne received a Commendation Award from the Institute of Certified Secretaries on 3 August 2018. In addition, Kathryne was named as one of the ‘Top 40 under 40 Women’ in Kenya by the Business Daily on 21 September 2018.

Kathryne has also been invited as a panelist and guest speaker on various forums including Strathmore Business School, to speak on topics pertinent to women in leadership and Centonomy Career Hub to speak on career development. She is an alumni of the Women In Leadership cohort of 2016 and isalso one of the twenty members of the first Lean In Circle in Kenya (2016-2017). Kathryne is keen about working with the youth and to this end, she passionately mentors students in the M-PESAFoundation Academy.

As part of her personal development, Kathryne is a member of the Women on Boards Network where she actively participates in their annual calendar of activities.

Kathryne holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi, a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and a Post Graduate certificate in International Business Law from the University of London. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a member of the Law Society of Kenya, a registered Certified Public Secretary and an Accredited Governance Auditor with the Institute of Certified Secretaries of Kenya.
